Chiefs delay Bills to secure historic Super Bowl shot for Ricks

Did we expect anything less than a thriller in the AFC Championship Game between these bitter rivals?

The Kansas City Chiefs defeated the Buffalo Bills 32-29 in the AFC Championship Game in an absolute thriller on Sunday night at Geha Field at Arrowhead Stadium. .

The Chiefs will now take a shot at NFL history as they can become the first team ever to win three straight games if they can beat the Philadelphia Eagles again.

The Chiefs won Super Bowl LVII over the Eagles in Arizona during the 2022 season, 38-35.

Meanwhile, Josh Allen and the Bills are now 0-4 against the Chiefs in the playoffs despite handing them one of two losses in the 2024 regular season.

But Buffalo's offense found itself exactly where it wanted to be in this game: late in the fourth quarter, with the ball in its hands. The defense shut down Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs' offense, forcing a Harrison Butker field goal for a 32-29 lead.

Allen, who has held the clutch all season long, had a chance to at least run the ball into the game, or better yet, the game-winning touchdown with 3:33 left in the fourth quarter.

However, Chiefs defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo dialed in perfect games on back-to-back plays, starting on third-and-10 from the Buffalo 42-yard line, where he called a comprehensive Blitzkrieg. That led to a five-yard gain by Amari Cooper that set up Allen and the Bills on fourth-and-5.

Then, another blitz is called, but this is a cornerback being sent to the pocket as the Chiefs fake out at the line of scrimmage with two backs and instead drop back into coverage.

Allen prayed to the middle of the field and Dalton Kincaid had a chance to make money, but it bounced off his chest and hit the turf.

This came after the two-minute warning, and Mahomes and the entire Chiefs knew they needed a couple to knock the game down. In typical Chiefs fashion, they got what they needed as Isiah Pacheco picked up a first down with a 10-yard reception and Samaj Perrine Samaje Perine had the only touchdown with 17 yards remaining with 1:35 remaining and no Bills reaching overtime to seal the victory.

The celebrations started after a hard-fought Chiefs win and it was always a thriller from the start.

Mahomes and the Chiefs were dialed in from just 90 yards on the first play of the game and saw Kareem Hunt score from 12 yards out Get out there and get an early lead.

However, the game went back and forth throughout as Allen was able to engineer a 72-yard drive in 10 plays by blocking James Cook's six-yard rush, Hence the lead early in the second quarter.

However, the Chiefs responded with 14 unanswered points as they scored on back-to-back touchdown drives to take their largest lead at the end of the first half. Rookie Xavier once again found the end zone from 11 yards out, and Mahomes himself scrambled from one yard out to make it 21-10.

Buffalo wasn't without a fight, however, taking the lead just before halftime after Mack Hollins threw a beautiful deep ball from Allen for a 34-yard touchdown. Down to 21-16.

The Bills would eventually take the lead in the second half after Cook's second touchdown run, with a fourth-and-goal to take a 22-21 lead.

Perhaps the biggest turning point in the game, though, came on the next drive after the Bills threw a punt to the Chiefs. On fourth-and-1 at the Kansas City 41-yard line, the Bills elected to make this one with 13:01 left in the fourth quarter. Allen had a quarterback sneak, but after replay commentary, he was ruled a no-contest, giving the Chiefs the advantage to get the ball back.

Mahomes wasted no time, needing just five plays to get out and end his momentum with another rushing score to make it 29-22.

If the suspense wasn't enough, the Bills found themselves at the Chiefs' four-yard line after Allen kicked another 32-yarder to Hollins on third-and-8 on the ensuing drive. . On fourth-and-goal, Curtis Samuel slid out of coverage and held two feet in the end zone as he tied it again for the touchdown.
