Miss Southern Baseball coach Christian Ostrander vs. Miami in Hattiesburg Regional Final
- Miss Southern will face Miami in the full game of the regional champions.
Momentum is a powerful thing.
Miss Southern Baseball beat Alabama 6-5 in the Hattiesburg area of the NCAA Championship. It created more in a 8-1 win over Colombia, starting with seven runs in the sixth.
The momentum reached the craziest court when the Golden Eagles scored nine runs in their first innings to beat Miami 17-6, against the Hurricanes (33-25).
“Yes, we were a little relaxed in the first game (versus Columbia),” said Joey Urban, who had two home runs against Miami and ran five times. “It's the seventh, the eighth and the ninth innings (innings) – This is where we start picking it up. I think it's a good confidence in the next game. Now, we're playing tomorrow, and I think today is a big push for us.”
Struggling in Miss Carson Paetow, who was struggling in the south, he beat 26 downs in the finals and tore off a two-way right field in the ninth inning against Colombia. The hit song – his first Hattiesburg area – attracted applause from 5,329 people.
Senior captain Paetow looked at his teammates in the first base against Miami and in the third base dig. He raised his arms, flashing his characteristic “I love you” gesture. Then, he snatched two fists.
The emotional display of infectiousness is the scene of the first game of the nine games.
Miss South has other outstanding moments in the victory over Miami. Urban's two home runs. Three songs by Jake Cook. Matthew Russo's 18th home run (his first since May 11) and Tucker Stockman's three-inning explosion.
But Peto's moment is particularly important. On the second day in the lineup from clearing points to eight holes, he reached the base three times, drove three shots and got two runs.
And, now, Paetow and Golden Eagles will try to drive the momentum train into the June 2 championship full game.
“These guys know what the dangers are,” said Miss Southern coach Christian Ostrander. “Stay away from hosting a super area win. It's cool. It's hard to do. Can't wait to come here tomorrow.”
