Bad Bunny beats Taylor Swift for No. 1
Bad Bunny's “Debí Tirar Más Fotos” debuts at No. 1 on the charts after a full first week of tracking, becoming the reggaeton star's fourth album to hit the peak. It's a tight race, with the 17-song album selling just 1,000 copies, surpassing Taylor Swift's vinyl album, which went on sale on her online store on January 7. Lover (Live From Paris)”, which reached number one. .
In the tracking week ending January 16, “Debí Tirar Más Fotos” sold 203,500 copies, and Swift's “Lover: Live From Paris” sold 202,500 copies after being re-released on vinyl (all from album sales) It re-entered the charts (161,000 copies sold that week) and was released as a digital download for the first time.
“Bad Bunny” debuted at No. 2 last week and was active for only five days, as Billboard (and its data partner Luminate) only counts sales Friday through Thursday, while “Debí” debuted on Sunday (1 Released on May 5th). The main reason for “Debí” to reach the top is that its first week of streaming activity reached 264 million times. The Spanish-language album is only available as a standard LP and digital download. Traditional album sales accounted for less than 8,000 of this week's album events.
For Swift, it's the opposite, with her albums only available as vinyl or downloads. Swift's vinyl sold out almost immediately, pushing “Lover (Live From Paris)” to easily surpass its previous peak of No. 58 on the Billboard 200 chart. The “Live From Paris” version first saw a (and very limited) drop in February 2023, and has since been selling for well over $1,000 at second-hand retailers and online stores.
It's the best-selling album of the week and the highest-charting live album on the Billboard 200 in more than five years (and the best-selling single-week album for a vinyl live album since Luminate began tracking sales in 1991). Not since Lionel Richie’s 2019 release Hello From Las Vegas has a live album ranked this high.
Aside from Swift and Bad Bunny, there are no new albums in this week's top 10: SZA's “SOS” is at No. 3, followed by Kendrick Lamar's “GNX” at No. 4 and Lil Baby's “Wham.” Dropped to fourth place.
