Mistral releases its AI assistant on iOS and Android

Mistral, sometimes considered a huge hope for AI in Europe, has released several updates to its AI assistant, Le Chat. In addition to the major web interface upgrades, the company has released mobile apps on iOS and Android.

Remind people that Mistral has developed its own large language model. The company's flagship models, such as Mistral Large or its multimodal model, Pixtral, are available for commercial use through APIs or cloud partners such as Azure AI Studio, Amazon Bedrock and Google's Vertex AI. It also released many open models under the Apache 2.0 license.

Mistral wants to position itself as a reliable alternative to Openai or humans. In addition to developing the basic model, its LE Chat Assistant competes directly with Chatgpt, Claude, Google Gemini and Microsoft Copilot.

Mistral has finally released a mobile version of the Assistant to better compete for the coveted position on the phone's home screen. Mobile applications have the usual chatbot interface. You can query Mistral's AI model and ask subsequent questions in a simple conversation interface.

Le Chat has evolved to become a qualified AI assistant over the past few months. In November 2024, Mistral added support for web search. It also allows you to generate images or interact with free-form canvas to edit text or code in a separate window.

Recently, the company signed an extensive agreement with news agency Agence France-Presse (AFP) to procure information to achieve results. However, there is no voice mode in Mistral's mobile app for those who rely on voice querying AI assistants.

With today's update to LE Chat, Mistral also launched the Pro Tier for $14.99 per month, or €14.99 per month in Europe. While the company no longer details the exact AI model it uses under the hood, it says the Pro plans to follow the access to the “highest performance model”, which suggests that the free account cannot access the top-line model.

Other benefits include a comprehensive limit on higher limits and the ability to choose to share data with Mistral – the company is bringing paid or agreed models to AI assistants.

Up to 1,000 words per second

What makes Mistral stand out? The company does not claim that its model is better than its competitors. But it asserts that from a product standpoint, it can sometimes outperform competitors.

For example, Mistral noted that Le Chat runs on the “fastest reasoning engine on Earth” and can answer up to 1,000 words per second. In our usage, it does make it faster than the 4O model using Chatgpt.

Mistral also claims that it is much better than the images produced by Chatgpt or Grok. The reason Mistral is doing well in this regard is that it relies on Black Forest Luxs Ultra, one of the leading image generation models.

These are great features, but one of the main differentiators of LE Chat's enterprise solutions. Mistral allows you to deploy LE CHAT in your environment using custom models and custom user interfaces.

If you work in defense or banking, you may need to be able to deploy an AI assistant on the premise. Chatgpt Enterprise or Claude Enterprise is currently unavailable. This will help increase the company's revenue.

But first, let's see if Mistral's mobile app can convince some AI enthusiasts to try chatbots. At the time of writing, Chatgpt, DeepSeek and Google Gemini respectively retain one of the most downloaded iPhone apps in the United States.
