Trump's former NFL player HUD secretary Pick clears program vote
Former NFL player and Texas Rep. Scott Turner surpassed key procedural barriers in the Senate Tuesday night and made a final confirmation vote to lead housing and city later this week Department of Development (HUD).
The nomination cleared the procedural vote by 55-45, and two Democrats joined the Republicans.
President Donald Trump announced that Turner was his choice to serve as HUD secretary shortly after the election last November.

In the last Trump administration, former Republican presidential candidate Dr. Ben Carson led the HUD.
Turner played for nine seasons in the NFL after being drafted in 1995. The defensive backs play for the Washington Redskins, the San Diego Chargers and the Denver Broncos.

After leaving the league, he ran for several years in his Texas hometown.
In the news announced by Trump, he touted Turner's work in the last administration, serving as the first executive director of the White House Opportunity and Revitalization Committee (WHORC). He explained that the nominees “led unprecedented efforts to transform the most distressing communities in our country.”

“These efforts, in partnership with former HUD secretary Ben Carson, were guided by Scott overseeing 16 federal agencies, maximizing this guidance, which has implemented more than 200 policies, are being implemented. Action. Under Scott, the Opportunity Zone received over $50 billion in private investment!” he added.

During a hearing held by the Senate Committee on Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs last month, Turner testified that he wanted to address broken policy areas and lift Americans out of government aid.

He explained that this is his goal “to help people get rid of government aid, become self-sustaining and fulfill the American dream.”
