The U.S. Post Office said on Tuesday that it will temporarily suspend all admission plans of China and Hong Kong Post.
According to the alarm issued to the website of the agency, the change should take effect immediately, and it will be kept “until the notice”. USPS said that the letters and large envelopes from China and Hong Kong (called “apartment”) will not be affected.
This news was announced by the administrative order signed by Donald Trump Saturday to China, Mexico and Canada's announcement. Trump agreed to insist on imposing a 25 % tariff for 30 days from Canada and Mexico, but 10 % of Chinese goods still exist.
One of the orders in the order eliminates popular trade vulnerabilities, that is, “de minimis”, which makes exporters send parcels worth less than $ 800 to US tax -free.
The regulations of de minimis have always been the key tool for Chinese e -commerce companies, including Shein and and PDD holdingTEMU, when they want to provide the lowest prices of rocks on all products of clothes and furniture to all products of electronic equipment and home decoration to develop their existence in the United States.
According to data from the US Customs and Border Protection, the United States processed more than 1.3 billion De Minimis goods in 2024. 2023 report of American houses The Selection Committee of the Communist Party of China found that more than 30 % of all the parcels of Temu and Shein are 30 % of the United States, and nearly half of all the lowest goods from China may be “nearly half”.
China Post and Hong Kong Post are government -run by government Postal service. It is unclear whether the suspension is applicable to China's packaging and transportation and Hong Kong sent through private mail operators. In response to the clarification requirements, the USPS spokesman pointed CNBC to the original announcement of the agency.
Chris Pereira, president and CEO of Consulting Company, said that cross -border e -commerce companies relied on USP to rely on USPS to deliver. He said they also used various transportation providers including DHL, Fedex and UPS as well as smaller carrier.
PEREIRA added that USPS “traditionally a cost -effective choice, especially for small sellers in China,” suspension may lead to increased costs of sellers, while American consumers are higher.
Members believe that De Minimis imports have brought unfair advantages to Chinese companies by allowing them to bypass tariffs. Trading official It also said that the De Minimis package was “subject to the least document and inspection.”
Trade organizations and advocating groups have prompted Trump to curb MINIMIS transportation because they believe it allows illegal drugs such as Finy to enter the United States through emails.
If tariffs are levied, it is unclear whether TEMU, SHEIN and other Chinese e -commerce platforms can maintain the sharp growth of the United States.
Temu and Shein have previously stated that their business model does not depend on minimis. SHEIN and TEMU have opened a distribution center in the United States, allowing Chinese sellers to transport goods to the United States and store them in local warehouses.
Qianhe Technology Logistics, a logistics company headquarters in Shenzhen, said the trend of opening the US domestic distribution warehouse to stand out last year.
Biao said that according to the CNBC translation of Wen's Mandarin speech, his company saw the “explosive” demand in the warehouse in Los Angeles.
