Peter Forrest, formerly known as P. Fluid, was the lead singer and lead singer of the pioneering black rock band 24/7 Spyz. He has died at the age of 64. On January 14, Forrest's body was found in the back of a car, severely beaten. Abandoned ambulance bus in the Bronx. Forrest, who worked as a driver for an ambulance company, reportedly suffered “trauma around his body.” NYPD confirms death Rolling Stone, It added that the incident is “currently being investigated as a homicide.”

Beginning in the '80s, 24/7 Spyz were part of a wave of bands determined to prove that black musicians shouldn't be limited to hip-hop and R&B. The movement spawned a group called the Black Rock Coalition, which includes Living Color, Fishbone, 24/7 Spyz and others.

On their first two albums in 1989 work harder than you and the 1990s Thousand years of thick soup, Spyz blended hardcore, metal, and funk; their biggest hit was a remake of Kool and the Gang's “Jungle Boogie.” P. Fluid was the band's first lead singer, and his equally strong stage moves and vocal style, which blended various genres, influenced later rap-rock musicians. “He brought a sense of reckless abandon, but in a fun way,” says 24/7 Spyz guitarist Jimi Hazel. “He's climbing up to the rafters. When he wants to sing, he can sing. But he prefers to scream and yell.” In that regard, Hazel said, P. Fluid collaborates with original Faith No More frontman Chuck Mosley and Fishbone's Angelo Moore is on the same level. “These guys,” Hazel said, “set the template for what’s to come.”

Unfortunately, while the second album was being made, tensions grew between Forrest and the other members of 24/7 Spyz. According to Hazel, Forrest believed their label should focus on Forrest's political songs. In 1990, during the band's Jane's Addiction tour, Forrest shocked his fellow band members by announcing on stage that he was leaving the band.

24/7 Spyz continued without Forrest; a version of the band, consisting of founder Hazel and bassist Rick Skatore, continues to this day. But Forrest's career after “Spy” was more erratic and unstable. After Spyz left, he formed his own short-lived band, P. Fluid Foundation, before briefly reuniting with his former band in 1995. Temporarily disconnected. In 2008, he launched a side project, AFC, with Living Color's Corey Glover and Angelo Moore, but the band only released one single, “Election Day.”

In the mid-2010s, Forrest, who now calls himself Forrest P. Thinner, resurfaced with the goth band BlkVampires, in which he wore white makeup. “I've had the idea for the BlkVampires concept since before the Blade movie came out!” Forrest said in 2018. “Chris Lee and Peter Cushing are the best! … Man, you don't have enough time to put me in a funk. We BlkVampires really haven't scratched the surface of the impact I want.”

“What a funny guy,” Hazel said of his quixotic former bandmate. “I'm grateful to him because if we hadn't met on the street in 1986, 24/7 Spyz wouldn't have happened. You either loved him or hated him, but if you loved him, you loved him unconditionally. He is a bastard, but he is OK asshole. “
