LONDON — Catherine, Princess of Wales, said Tuesday that her cancer is in remission, months after completing chemotherapy.

The wife of Prince William, heir to the throne, wrote on Instagram: “I am relieved to now be in remission and I remain focused on recovery.”

“Anyone who has gone through a cancer diagnosis knows that adjusting to a new normal takes time. However, I look forward to a fulfilling year ahead,” she added. “There is so much to look forward to. Thank you all for your continued support.”

The royal also thanked the Royal Marsden Hospital, one of the UK's leading oncology facilities, for the care provided to her.

“We couldn't ask for more,” she said.

Kate revealed she had cancer in a surprising video announcement in March. She said at the time that she was undergoing “a series of preventive chemotherapy” on the advice of her medical team.

Her announcement comes less than a month after King Charles III announced that he had been diagnosed with cancer and was undergoing treatment. Doctors discovered the disease after he was hospitalized with an enlarged prostate, although the palace said he did not have prostate cancer.

Neither Kate nor Charles specified what type of cancer they had.

The princess has made a number of public appearances since revealing her diagnosis and attended the men's final at Wimbledon in July with her nine-year-old daughter Charlotte.

Last month, Kate hosted the fourth annual Christmas caroling event, Christmas Together, at Westminster Abbey in London, where she was joined by Charlotte and sons Prince George, 11, and Prince Louis, 6 Activity.

It was a rare public appearance for the children, who have largely stayed out of the public eye following surgery.

Like Kate, Charles has attended a number of events since resuming official duties earlier this year, including D-Day commemorations in France.

In October, he embarked on a long tour of Australia and Samoa with Queen Camilla.

Charles and Kate's illness highlights the challenges facing a streamlined royal family as the king pledges to cut spending.

With fewer working royals able to attend ribbon-cuttings, state events and awards ceremonies, the remaining royals are having to take on more activities.

Instead, Camilla, the king's sister Princess Anne and his youngest brother Prince Edward have to shoulder more of the burden.
