Primavera, a film about Italian Baroque composer and violinist Antonio Vivaldi, has been picked up by a number of major distributors. Vivaldi is the author of The Four Seasons.

Represented by Memento International and shot in Rome and Venice, the film marks the feature debut of acclaimed opera director Damiano Michieletto.

Warner Bros. will distribute the film in Italy, while Diapana Distribution will distribute it in France. Pre-sales completed by Memento International include Benelux (Cineart), Germany and Austria (X Verleih), Spain (A Contracorriente Films), Switzerland (Frenetic) and Poland (M2 Films). Negotiations are underway in several other regions.

“Spring” is written by Ludovica Rampoldi, the award-winning screenwriter of films such as “Traitor” and “The Gomorrah Series.” The screenplay is loosely adapted from Tiziano Scarpa's critically acclaimed novel “Ave Maria.”

“Primavera” is set in 18th-century Venice and tells the story of Cecilia, a 20-year-old violinist who lives in the Pièta orphanage. Despite her talent, Cecilia is trapped in an orphanage and knows marriage is the only way out. However, her life takes a turn after she meets Antonio Vivaldi, a talented and ambitious composer who becomes her new violin teacher. Guided by Vivaldi and his music, Cecilia “finds the strength to challenge a fate that once seemed inevitable,” the plot synopsis reads. “Primavera” stars Tecla Insoglia (“The Art of Joy”) as Cecilia and Michele Riordino (“Palace,” “Girls of the World”) as Vivaldi.

Micheletto has worked with the major Italian and international opera houses, from La Scala in Milan to the Royal Opera House in London, from the Teatro La Fenice in Venice to the Staatsoper Berlin, and the Opéra Bastille in Paris.

The star cast includes cinematographer Daria D'Antonio (“Hand of God,” “Partenope”), editor Walter Fasano (“Call Me by Your Name,” “Suspiria”) “), composer Fabio Massimo Capogrosso (“Kidnapping”), production designer Gaspare de Pascali (“Sicilian Letters”) and costume designer Maria Rita · Barbera (“The Son's Room”).

“Primavera” is a production of Warner Bros. Entertainment Italy and Indigo Film (Paolo Sorrentino's “La Belle” and “Youth”) and is a co-production with Moana Films. The film was supported by the PR FESR Fund of the Lazio Region and the Film Commission of the Veneto Foundation.
