Paul Goldschmidt quickly forces Yankees to consider risky action
Former NL MVP and seven-time All-Star first baseman Paul Goldschmidt passed everything the New York Yankees wanted and needed in the 2025 season.
It sounds like the good news may cause problems in 2026 now.
Goldschmidt continued his revival campaign Wednesday, slamming a hit home run against the Seattle Mariners in the seventh inning. MVP leader Judge Aaron later led the Yankees 3-2, helping the Bronx Bombers win and another series win.

It was Goldschmidt's latest big success, who joined the Yankees in December on a one-year $125 million contract. Goldschmidt entered the weekend batting with five home runs, 22 RBIs and .902 OPS. He has matched last year's Bwar (1.3) and has also been good at his eighth All-Star game.
Goldschmidt's 0.346 average is fourth among qualified players, with only 10 higher than his 0.395. Not bad for the 38-year-old in September.
Unfortunately, age can pose a serious problem during the offseason for Goldschmidt and Yankees. Goldschmidt is the main reason why a difficult Yankees in injury led 3.5 games in AL East and won the third division title in four years.
But Goldschmidt is only a few months away from the age of 38. At some point, the Yankees have to decide whether extending Goldschmidt is the right move, especially if this season proves to be a distortion.
Last season, given his age and workload, most of the season marked the worst of Goldschmidt’s figures. Although his 22 home runs were the fewest since he smashed 19 in 2014, it is worth noting that he only played 109 games that year. Goldschmidt missed only eight games a year ago.
Unless there is any huge lineup action, young Slugger Ben Rice has positioned himself as first base in 2026. The Yankees still have Giancarlo Stanton-sized issues at designated batsmen, and Rice has no signs to start seeing reps in third base.
What does all this mean for Goldschmidt? Fortunately for the Yankees, they have time to find the answer, although Goldschmidt certainly makes it very difficult Easy to separate.
