Experts say the skull of Hungarian King Matthias Corvinus may have been found
A skull was recently discovered in a medieval church – an expert believes it may belong to the legendary European king.
Emese Gábor, a face reconstruction expert and portrait sculptor in Hungary, talked about the discovery with Fox News Digital.
The skull was found in the skeleton part of the hypothetical cathedral of the Virgin Mary in Székesfehérvár, Hungary. Gaber believed that the skull belonged to Matthias Corvinus, who ruled the King of Hungary and the King of Croatia from 1458 to 1490.

The medieval king was known as Matthias, and was known for reorganizing the Hungarian army and ushering in judicial reform.
For centuries, the hypothetical cathedral of the Blessed Virgin Mary has been the funeral of the Hungarian king.

The site was attacked by the Ottoman Empire in the 16th century and then destroyed by fire in 1601.

Gábor told Fox News Digital that she discovered “very high morphological similarity” between the unknown skull and János Corvinus, son of Matthias Corvinus.
“The green discoloration observed on the bone surface may indicate the presence of a once-wearing metal crown, which will allow oxidation to pass through.”

She also noted that the physical characteristics of the skull were also known to Corvinus until his age and height.

“This phenomenon, along with other characteristics (such as the estimated age of the Age of Death (43-48; Mátyás died at 47), and a physical height of 172 cm, provides further support and enhances the possibility of royal origin.”

Gábor also created plastic facial reconstructions of the examined skull to help visualize facial features.

“Comparative analysis … is based on detailed proportional and morphological assessments, including the results of facial reconstruction,” she said.

The researchers plan to study the skull further, Garber added, including complete genomic and mitochondrial DNA analysis and isotope analysis to learn more.
